2018 Honda Accord: more of everything you want

Fundy Honda

The 2018 Honda Accord was finally unveiled last month, and there is no doubt that this 10th generation Accord is the most advanced and impressive in the midsize sedan’s history

Now, many will say that is to be expected given that, after all, a new model is usually always better than the one it replaces and they would be quite right. But in the case of the new 2018 Honda Accord, Honda has gone above and beyond.

Turbo engines and a new chassis for the 2018 Honda Accord

Honda said it wanted to take a completely new approach to its engine lineup when it designed its new 2018 Honda Accord. Looking at the final result, we can’t help but conclude that Honda accomplished its mission with the new Accord which will feature two turbocharged engines as well as a hybrid engine.

The entry-level engine will be a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 192 horsepower and 192 lb.-ft. of torque available at only 1,500 rpm. That’s 7 more horsepower than the previous entry-level Accord engine. The new turbo engine will be offered with a continuously variable automatic transmission, or a six-speed manual transmission.

Next, it will be possible to opt for a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine developing an impressive 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. This engine will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission (yes, 10 speeds!).

With a much wider power range and much more efficient automatic transmissions, the fuel consumption of the 2018 Honda Accord will be greatly reduced compared to the previous generation which was already quite impressive in that regard.

And, speaking of fuel economy, the new 2018 Honda Accord will also be offered in a hybrid version that combines an Atkinson cycle 2.0-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors for an improved thermal efficiency of 40 percent.

The 2018 Honda Accord also benefits from an improved chassis and a new body structure consisting of a higher percentage of high-strength steel. Overall, the new Accord uses more than 54 percent high-strength steel in its construction, with the end result being improved stiffness resulting in improved road handling, comfort and safety.

Honda Sensing standard in the 2018 Honda Accord

The 2018 Honda Accord will offer a complete set of driver assistance systems at no additional charge through the addition of Honda Sensing technologies which will be standard.

These include Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow (CVT Only) and new Traffic Sign Recognition. Additional available driver-assistive technologies include Honda LaneWatch blind spot display, Blind Spot Monitoring (replaces LaneWatch on Touring), front and rear parking sensors, Cross Traffic Monitor and Driver Awareness Monitor.

A rearview camera is also standard.
